Marking the highest point in the Wiehengebirge

Under the motto "Vöd'n Berge - Achter'n Berge - Up'm Berge", the municipality of Hüllhorst, the town of Lübbecke and Lübbecker Stadtmarketing have marked the highest point in the Wiehengebirge as a joint project. A sandstone was erected on the 320-metre-high Heidbrink for this purpose; the new hiking destination was inaugurated on 24 May 2008.

Idea and people involved in the project

The idea for the "highest stone" in the Wiehengebirge was the brainchild of Lübbecke's town curator Günter Niedringhaus. The project was implemented in collaboration with representatives of the municipality of Hüllhorst and the town of Lübbecke, as well as the Hüllhorst municipal curator, Dieter Lückemeier, and representatives of the Lübbecke town marketing association.

Origin and transportation of the sandstone

The stone required for the project was discovered in Gehlenbeck near the shooting range. The selected five-ton sandstone has strong iron inclusions and is typical of the Wiehengebirge. It was provided by the Gehlenbeck forestry association.

Installation on the Heidbrink

On February 27, 2008, the sandstone was transported to the Heidbrink with a wheel loader from the Bruns company in Nienstädt and support from the Möller construction company in Gehlenbeck. There, the Horstmann Tiefbau company from Oberbauerschaft erected the stone on the property of the von der Recke family from Lübbeck.
