My Hiking Day

in the Wiehengebirge

On a discovery tour in the Wiehengebirge

Just set off, take a deep breath, and enjoy nature – on the Eggetal Panorama Loop Trail, you can experience the Wiehengebirge at their best. Fresh spring water at the Bärenquelle, wide views from the Wiehenturm, and quiet forest paths make this hiking day a memorable nature experience.

Right at the starting point, the request stop “Neue Mühle,” you can smell the forest and hear the sound of the nearby stream. The trail first leads gently uphill into the dense deciduous forest of the Wiehen Hills. In the morning it is especially quiet here. Only birdsong accompanies the first section of the hike. After a few hundred meters, the view opens toward the Eggetal valley.

10:45

A narrow path leads to the Bear Spring, an idyllic resting spot in the middle of the forest. The gentle murmur of the spring water makes it a good place for a short break. It’s a good spot to refill your water bottle, take a few photos, or simply enjoy the fresh air. With a bit of luck, you might hear a great spotted woodpecker or spot a squirrel climbing.

11:30

Refreshed, the route continues on the Eggetal Panorama Loop. The trail winds along the wooded ridge, with repeated views opening up between the trees across the Lübbecke region. From time to time, a bench offers the chance to pause briefly and enjoy the quiet.

Around midday, the Wiehenturm is reached—a highlight of the tour. The 125 steps up are worth it: from the platform at a height of 29.5 meters, there is a wide view over the Egge Valley and the gentle hills of the Wiehen Hills. On clear days, the view extends as far as the Weser Uplands. A perfect spot for a lunch break.

If you still have energy and time afterwards, you can extend the loop and take a final break on the forest sofa along the panorama trail before heading back at an easy pace to the “Neue Mühle”.

Amid old trees, well-tended flowerbeds, and the babbling mill stream, the final section of the hike comes to a pleasant close. The Kneipp facilities offer a brief refreshment, and on the park benches you can take one last deep breath and let the impressions of the day sink in.

15:30

To round off the hiking day, the group heads to Café Elise at the Landhotel Anneliese. With a slice of homemade cake and a cup of coffee, the tour comes to a relaxed close. Through the large windows, there is one last view of the gentle hills of the Wiehen Hills—a pleasant moment to look back with appreciation on a day full of experiences and perhaps already plan the next hike.
